Ullswater Canoe and Kayak Race

On 1st July the well established Norfolk Island Race took place. The course was around 7 miles and started from Ullswater Outward Bound Centre. The route went along the shore to Aira Point before heading out to the island and back to Ullswater OB by the same route. There was an excellent turn out with the sea kayak class being particularly well attended. The Windermere Canoe Kayak Team of Dan Hinton and Paul Noble took the lead quickly but were hounded by another double racing kayak and a another strong pair in a racing C2. Unknown to all the other racers this pair had actually not entered but were giving us all a hard training session!! After the turn around the island steady paddling from Dan and Paul took them to the line first in 58 minutes. Thanks to Nigel Timmins for a great race.

Coniston Canoe and Kayak race.

This was held at Machells Coppice on the E side of Coniston on the 28th June. Held for the  first ever time it was quite well attended particularly in the sea kayaks and junior category. The route was from the Coppice along the Lake Shore to Piel Island and back again. The double racing sea kayak of Dan Hinton and Paul Noble was well back before the rest of the field.

It was a good warm up for the Ullswater Canoe and Kayak the following Weekend. Thanks to Mac and Duddon Canoe Club for running this.
